Parquet Cork Floor Tile Install Guide

Cork Solution's Install Guide - Parquet Floor Tiles

WARNING!

Use DriTac 6200 tile adhesive as two-part contact glue for cork parquet tiles. Apply thin coat to subfloor and tiles using high-density foam painter’s roller. Ensure adhesive turns transparent before adhering tiles for strongest bond. Too much adhesive can cause tiles to cup. Apply polyurethane (BonaKemi’s “Traffic” or Dura Seal’s “X-terra”) after tile installation as per warranty. Read instructions carefully.

PREPARATION / ACCLIMATIZATION

Store open cartons for 48-72 hours before use. Maintain temperature and humidity as occupied conditions. Rooms and sub-floors should be 65-85°F. Substrates must be clean, dry, and dust-free. Patch holes, cracks, joints with cement compound.

INSTALLING ON CONCRETE

Use Cork Solution’s 1/4″ cork underlay sheets over concrete. Concrete should be sound, smooth, and level with max 1/8″ variation in 10 feet. Test concrete moisture. Moisture can’t exceed 3lbs. in 1000 sqft.

INSTALLING ON WOOD

Plywood should be smooth, level, and sound. Sand uneven areas. New plywood should be 3/8″ or 1/2″ thick with finished side. Use 6-mil polyethylene over basements/crawlspaces.

INSTALLING OVER RADIANT HEATING SYSTEMS

Compatible with hot water radiant systems, not electric ones. Cork parquet tiles can be installed, but gaps might be visible during heating. Turn on heating system for 4-5 days before installation. Max surface temp shouldn’t exceed 85°F.

LAYING CORK PARQUET

Lay tiles with staggered joints for best results. Mix tiles from various cartons. Leave 1/4″ expansion space near walls, thresholds, pipes. Use silicone sealer near wet areas. Tiles can be tighter or looser based on moisture levels.

CLEAN UP

Follow adhesive manufacturer’s instructions.

APPLICATION OF POLYURETHANE

Use polyurethane to protect flooring and joints. Apply 2 coats for residential, 3 for heavy use. Follow manufacturer’s instructions.

CLEANING & MAINTENANCE

Sweep/vacuum regularly. Damp mop as needed, but don’t saturate. Use wide casters or felt tips under furniture legs. Protect from direct sunlight to prevent fading. Note: “Fullness” effect is normal due to cork’s natural properties. Applying polyurethane can reduce this effect.
